The Newark and East Windsor communities, along with countless veterans and families across the nation, are mourning the sudden passing of Jack Fanous, a widely respected leader, advocate, and humanitarian. Jack, 45, passed away unexpectedly on November 17, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service that profoundly changed the lives of thousands.
Born into a close-knit and faith-rooted family, Jack was the devoted husband of Sheigh Fanous, beloved son of Drs. Stephan and Venis Fanous, and admired brother of James Fanous, husband of Andrea Fanous. To his family, he was not only an accomplished professional but a source of strength, loyalty, warmth, and unwavering love.
Jack was best known as the Founder and Executive Director of The GI Go Fund, a nationally recognized nonprofit dedicated to supporting military veterans with housing, employment, and critical services. His work began with a mission to honor fallen friends and evolved into a powerful movement that reshaped how communities care for veterans in need. Through innovation, compassion, and a determination that never wavered, Jack built programs that continue to uplift service members and their families long after his passing.
His colleagues at JobPaths shared a deeply heartfelt tribute, writing, “It is with the absolute heaviest of hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our leader, our visionary, and our best friend. He was a titan in every way, dedicating his life not only to supporting people in need but also to everyone and anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a true force of nature, and we will literally be looking up to him every single day and working to preserve his legacy forever.”
Those who knew Jack personally speak of his generosity, integrity, and relentless drive to make the world better. He challenged outdated ways of thinking, pushed boundaries, and believed deeply in the potential of every person he encountered. Whether he was pioneering new solutions for veterans, offering guidance to co-workers, or simply sharing a laugh with a friend, Jack showed up fully—with passion, humility, and heart.
His family shared the scripture, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7), a verse that captures the spirit with which Jack lived his life.
